Flowers Laid on Tombs of Armenian Generals in Tbilisi PDF Print E-mail

A1On January 28, 2018, on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the formation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Georgia, Ruben Sadoyan; his wife, 1the personnel of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Georgia, along with the clergy and officials of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, with the participation of representatives of the Armenian community of Tbilisi, lit candles and prayed in memory of the Armenian soldiers, who had died at all times in different countries, at the 2Cathedral of Saint George.

Already a traditional ceremony dedicated to the Armenian Army Day was held at the tombs of the glorious Armenian generals buried in the yard of the Cathedral of Saint George (Generals Mikhail Loris-Melikov, Ivan Lazarev, Boris Shelkovnikov and Arzas Ter-Ghukasov). Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan, Pastor of the Church, presided over a Repose of Souls service.3 On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Georgia a wreath and flowers were laid.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Georgia Ruben Sadoyan; in his remarks, wished success to the Armenian Armed Forces, wished the soldiers 4endurance, peace and safe military service, he also wished Armenia to live in peace, so that the Armenian army would not have to demonstrate its might.

In his remarks, Armenia's military attaché to Georgia, Colonel Samvel Ramazyan, referred to the glorious pages, the Armenian army wrote in 5the history of thousands of years; he highly appreciated the service of the Armenian soldiers, who keep the borders of our country in peace, defend our nation and Homeland. The speaker noted that in the absence of Armenian statehood, former eminent Armenian military men in Tbilisi not only served in the Imperial Russian Army, but participated in the liberation of primordial Armenian land and supported Armenians during the Russo-Turkish Wars. The Colonel stressed that it is every Armenian’s duty to pay tribute to the memory of the glorious Armenian generals.

The Makar Yekmalyan Church Choir performed the national anthem of the Republic of Armenia.
