ARCHIMANDRITE HOVHANNES KANAKERTSI

1773-1781 (Years of Leadership)

In January 1781, by the order of Gukas I Karnetsi, Catholicos of All Armenians, Archimandrite Hovhannes Kanakertsi was transferred from Tbilisi to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin “for the mistreatment of the community”.  Archimandrite Hovhannes Kanakertsi was appointed to serve as a Grant Collector at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin (“Archive of Armenian History”, Book 1, Yerevan, 1984, pp. 196-200).
