BISHOP MAMBRE SANASARYAN

Bishop Mambre Sanasaryan was born in 1844. He studied in the Theological Seminary of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

In 1864, he was ordained as a deacon; in 1865, he received the rank of Archimandrite.

In 1868, Bishop Mambre Sanasaryan was appointed to serve as the Vicar of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia.  

In 1871, he was appointed to serve as the Abbot of the Monastery of Surb Khach (Holy Cross) in Nor Nakhijevan.

In 1875, Bishop Mambre Sanasaryan was appointed to serve as an investigating officer on spiritual matters in the Novo Bayazet area.

From 1877, Bishop Mambre Sanasaryan was appointed to serve as the Vicar in the Diocese of Hin- Nakhijevan, later he was a member of the Armenian Church’s Tbilisi Consistory and the Abbot of the Monastery of Surb Sargis (Saint Sargis).

In 1883, Bishop Mambre Sanasaryan was appointed to serve as the Vicar of the Diocese in Akhaltsikhe, and in 1884 he was elected as a member of the Synod of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

In 1886, Makar I Teguttsi Ter-Petrosyan, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, consecrated him as a Bishop, and in 1889, Bishop Mambre Sanasaryan was appointed to serve as the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia.

Bishop Mambre Sanasaryan was awarded the Order of St. Anna, Second Class (“Ararat” Magazine, 1892, p. 768).

Bishop Mambre Sanasaryan, died after a long illness, at the age of 48, in a country house in Kojori (Georgia), on August 1, 1892.
