"SAINT GREGORY OF NAREK" EDUCATION, CULTURE AND YOUTH CENTER IN RUSTAVI

May 13 2017 became historic for the Armenians in Rustavi, because a spiritual, educational, cultural and youth center named after St. Gregory of Narek (Surb Grigor Narekatsi) of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia was solemnly opened, the spiritual superintendent of it was appointed priest Rev. Father Narek Ghushchyan. The mission of the Center is to preserve and develop the spiritual, cultural, and historical heritage while fostering the unity of the local Armenian population around the church.

By the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Vemkar (rock at the bottom of the Altar) and Icon were consecrated, on which Divine Liturgy is offered every Sunday.

Starting to actively work from the very first days of its foundation, as a result, a Sunday school named after Saint Elijah the Prophet was established and operates in the Center. Armenians of different ages from Rustavi attend the school to learn literacy and discover their spiritual, cultural, and historical heritage. The Sunday school operates under the program of the educational department of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

The "Berkri" choir operates at the Center, which beautifies Sunday Liturgies with its performance of Armenian spiritual songs. Armenian folk and pop music are also studied here.

In "Nemrut" dance ensemble people not only learn Armenian "Kochari", and "Yarkushta", but also present the Armenian national dance at various events organized in the city of Rustavi.

The Center also works to unite the youth of Rustavi, instilling a sense of national spirit and bringing them closer to cultural values. This is facilitated through regular meetings, lectures, and discussions organized by the Diocesan Youth Department.

The head of the St. Gregory of Narek Education, Culture, and Youth Center is Rev. Father Narek Ghushchyan, Pastor of the Armenians in Rustavi and Marneul cities. Rev. Father Narek jointly manages the social service inspectorate of the headquarters of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
