Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues received the Vicar of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia

On July 17, 2019, Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakhmadze and the newly appointed Vicar of the Diocese of Armenian Apostolic Holy Church in Georgia Rev. Father Kirakos Davtyan met in the Georgian government residence. The aim of the meeting was acquaintance.

Zaza Vashakhmadze congratulated Rev. Father Kirakos on his appointment to serve as vicar of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia and wished him successes in his service.

The Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues touched upon the centuries-old friendship of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church and the Georgian Orthodox Church, as well as the successful activity of the religious organizations in Georgia. Zaza Vashakhmadze also informed about the religious policy of Georgia carried out by the state during the recent years, activity of the State Agency for Religious Issues, particularly, the financing of the religious organizations, the return of the worship buildings and other projects.

Rev. Father Kirakos Davtyan thanked the Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues for reception and mentioned that as he is a son of this land, the centauries-long friendship of the two Christian people and the role and contribution of the Georgian Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic Holy Churches in the strengthening and development of good relations of the two neighboring peoples is dear to his heart. Rev. Father expressed hope to cooperate closely with the State Agency for Religious Issues.

The officials of the State Agency for Religious Issues participated in the meeting. Rev. Father Kirakos was accompanied by Michael Avagyan, Head of the Legal Affairs and Cooperation Department and Karen Yeritsyan, Head of Administrative and Economic Department of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

Since 2002, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan headed the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. In 2019, His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan completed his service as Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The application submitted by Bishop Vazgen serves as the basis. From June 15, 2019, by the Pontifical Order of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Rev. Father Kirakos Davtyan was appointed to serve as Primate. Rev. Father Kirakos Davtyan was born in 1982, in Tbilisi, has served in the Armenian Dioceses in Georgia, Australia, New Zealand and Russia.
