Father Yeghishe’s Journey to Eternal Life

On September 27, 2025, hundreds of representatives of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia accompanied Senior Priest Rev. Father Yeghishe Harutyunyan, a devoted and long-serving clergyman of the Diocese, to eternity. He passed away at the age of 86. The procession began from the St. George Cathedral in Tbilisi.
On the same day, at St. George Cathedral, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
At the Divine Liturgy were present His Grace Father Nshan Hmayakyan, Prelate at Samtskhe-Javakheti and Tsalka’s General Prelacy of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, clergymen who had arrived from Armenian-populated regions of Georgia and from Armenia, church servants, faithful parishioners, and many citizens.
During the Divine Liturgy, under the hand of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, and with the chanting of hymns and the reading of psalms, the final anointing of the departed was performed according to the liturgical rites of the Armenian Church.
The clergy prayed to Almighty God, beseeching Him to grant Father Yeghishe’s soul a share in His divine light.
The Primate of the Armanian Diocese in Georgia emphasized the late Father Yeghishe’s wholehearted devotion to the service of the Church, his steadfast embrace of Christian values, and his dedication to passing them on to future generations. A living testimony to this is the commitment of his son and grandson to serve the Church, as well as the many young people whom Father Yeghishe guided toward the Church through his exhortations and sound teaching.
His Grace Bishop Kirakos anointed Father Yeghishe’s forehead and wrist for the last time with the Holy Muron (Chrism) and placed the Holy Gospel on his right side. One by one, all members of the clergy bade their farewell to the departed.
Upon the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the burial service was performed. The remains of Rev. Father Yeghishe Harutyunyan, Senior Priest, were accompanied in a solemn procession by clergy and hundreds of faithful to the Khojivank Pantheon of Armenian Writers and Public Figures in Tbilisi, where this worthy servant of the Church found his eternal resting place alongside the great sons and daughters of the nation. Blessed be the memory of the righteous.
