Feast of Ascension celebrated in Tbilisi with Divine Liturgy

On May 29, 2025, the Holy Christian Church celebrated the glorious Feast of the Ascension, marking the 40 days Christ remained on earth after the Resurrection before His miraculous ascent into heaven. For the Armenian Apostolic Church, the feast holds dual significance, as it also commemorates the historic relocation of the Armenian Catholicosate from Sis to Vagharshapat in 1441.
The feast was celebrated in the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia with Divine Liturgies and pilgrimages.
At the Saint Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan. Among the faithful attending the Ascension Feast were the pupils of the Diocesan “St. Moses of Khoren” (Surb Movses Khorenatsi) Preschool, adorned with flower crowns, accompanied by their teachers and parents.
During the Divine Liturgy, the celebrant delivered a sermon on the significance of the Feast of the Ascension and the declaration of the day as a pilgrimage to Holy Etchmiadzin. A Patriarchal Blessing was performed, during which prayers were offered for the steadfastness and eternity of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, as well as for the health and peaceful reign of the Catholicos of All Armenians.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the preschool children wove flower wreaths in the area adjacent to the church and, in keeping with the popular tradition of the feast, gifted the wreaths to passersby.
