Feast of Holy Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ celebrated with Divine Liturgy at Armenian Diocese in Georgia

On January 6, the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church celebrated the Feast of the Holy Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ, which commemorates the birth and baptism of Jesus. God became a human.

On January 6, 2025, the first major feast of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church was celebrated with Divine Liturgy at the operating churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, celebrated Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Saint George, Tbilisi.

Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakmadze; Head of the Strategic Research, Analysis and Regional Service of the Agency Nino Chavchavadze; Editor of “Vrastan” (“Georgia”) newsletter Van Bayburtyan, lawyer and jurist Karen Yeghiazaryan, representative of the Public Defender’s Office Koba Chopliani and Izabella Osipova; Head of Community Initiatives Development Foundation Mari Mikoyan, as well as state and public figures and faithful came to congratulate the Armenians on the occasion of the Feast.

During the Divine Liturgy, the Diocesan Primate read the message of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians on the occasion of the Feast of Holy Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Diocesan Primate congratulated those present on New Year and Christmas, and the Georgian Orthodox Church and the high-ranking Georgian guests on the occasion of the upcoming Christmas.

Blessing of Water Service was offered under the presidency of the Diocesan Primate (аccording to tradition, lowering the cross into the water symbolizes Jesus' entry into the Jordan River). In 2025, honorable Armenian Arkady Hovakimyan and devoted Christian Karen Darbinyan became the Godfathers of the Cross of the Cathedral of Saint George and Saint Etchmiadzin in Avlabri church respectively.

The Feast of Holy Nativity and Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ was properly celebrated in Saint Savior (Surb Prkich) Church in Batumi, Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church in Akhaltsikhe, Holy Cross (Surb Khach) Church in Akhalkalaki, Saint Sarkis Church in Ninotsminda and in the other Armenian churches.

Those present returned to their homes in a festive mood, taking blessed water with them.
