Feast of St. Ghevond the Priest and His Companions celebrated at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia
Feast of St. Ghevond the Priest and His Companions is the feast of all priests. St. Ghevond the Priest and His Companions are the sanctified warriors in the battle of Avarair. The feast is named in honor of Ghevond the Priest, who was the oldest. The feast is moveable. In 2024, it was celebrated on February 6.
Feast of St. Ghevond the Priest and His Companions was celebrated with a Divine Liturgy offered under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, at the Cathedral of Saint George. The celebrant was Rev. Father Hovsep Harutyunyan. The festive Divine Liturgy was unique because it was offered by the priests who serve in the Armenian Diocesan churches of Tbilisi and other Armenian-populated regions.
The Divine Liturgy was attended by Rev. Father Archimandrite Nshan Hmayakyan, General Prelate at Samtskhe- Javakheti and Tsalka’s General Prelacy and Rev. Father Hakob Sahakyan, Pastor of Akhaltsikhe, and spiritual superintendent of Akhatsikhe and Borjomi regions.
During the Divine Liturgy, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia preached about the mystery of the day, congratulated all the priests, offered his paternal blessing and conveyed the Pontifical Encyclical of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, granting the right to wear priests’ pectoral cross to Rev. Father Hovsep Harutyunyan and Rev. Father Ghevond Tazayan, as well as under the Diocesan order the right to wear priests’ pectoral cross in the territory of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia was granted to Rev. Father Hakob Sahakyan
