High commissioner for Diaspora Affairs visited Cathedral of St. George in Tbilisi
On February 1, 2020, RA High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan who was in Tbilisi on a working visit, and Hayk Yengibaryan, Head of All-Armenian projects Department's scientific-educational projects, led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Georgia Ruben Sadoyan and accompanied by diplomats of Embassy, visited Cathedral of St. George of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
Vicar of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Rev. Father Archimandrite Kirakos Davtyan received the guests in his residence. During the conversation, Rev. Father told the guests about the activities of the Diocese, maintenance of historical and cultural monuments, gathering Armenians in Georgia around Armenian Apostolic Holy Church. He also attached importance to development of national culture and Diocesan activities to spread native language.
High Commissioner and guests toured the historical monument of Cathedral of St. George built in 13t century, they expressed their admiration for the beauty of the church and unique frescos by talented Hovnatanyans. After lighting candles and praying in the ancient and powerful Cathedral, guests moved to ''House of Hovhannes Tumanyan'' Center for Science and Education.
Here they were welcomed by Spiritual Superintendant of the Center Rev. Father Kirakos Simonyan and the staff. Gisane Hovsepyan, Head of ''House of Hovhannes Tumanyan'' Center for Science and Education presented the guests the daily life and activity of the Center, which has become the main place to visit for guests from Motherland and other countries, spoke about the goals and directions of the Center's activities as well. The Head of the Center told High Commissioner Sinanyan about events dedicated to Tumanyan's 150th anniversary, which were implemented and recorded in the history pages of the Center, she also showed published books, items and things related to All-Armenian Poet carefully collected pieces and turned into sacred relic.
Staff member of the Center Gohar Mazmanyan told the attendees about Hovhannes Tumanyan's family, as well as his social activities.
RA High commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan wrote a note in Center's book of impressions.
The guests took part in the traditional tea party at the house of the great poet.
