CULTURAL DEPARTMENT - DIRECTOR: SUREN ABRAMYAN

The main goal of the Cultural Department is to preserve and develop national art in Georgia, showcase its achievements, pass on folk traditions and customs to future generations, and strengthen the centuries-old cultural ties between Armenia and Georgia.

The Department of Culture manages the following spiritual, scientific, educational, cultural, and youth centers: "Hayartun," "Hovhannes Tumanyan’s House" in Tbilisi, "Alexander Mantashyants" in Batumi, "Vardges Surenyants" in Akhaltsikhe, "Karapet Archbishop Bagratuni" in Akhalkalaki, "Rafael Javakh" in Ninotsminda, and "Saint Gregory of Narek" in Rustavi. It organizes and coordinates the activities of various cultural groups, brings together talented individuals at these centers, facilitates the participation of the Diocese's aesthetic groups in local and large-scale events, and hosts such events itself.

The Cultural Department collaborates closely with the Ministries of Culture, Education, and Science of Georgia, the Tbilisi Municipality, local and cultural non-governmental organizations, community structures, and the RA Ministries of Culture and Diaspora. It actively participates in their projects and also initiates its own programs.

The Department of Culture, established in 2005 by a group of prominent figures, aimed to revitalize cultural life within the Diocese. Celebration of national and church holidays in the courtyards of Diocesan churches, including St. Sarkis, Tiarn’ndaraj, Median Day (Mijink), Ascension, Children's Day, May triple holiday, and Vardavar were initiated and became a tradition. These also include the organization of the Gata, Harisa, Tolma and Ghapama festivals.

The Cultural Department, through its activities, brings together various ensembles and creative groups from Tbilisi, organizing their participation in festivals, competitions, and events held in both Georgia and the Republic of Armenia. The Department also supports the organization of events in Armenian-populated regions and works on the formation and development of cultural groups in local areas.
