Arno Babajanyan's tribute evening at the "Hovhannes Tumanyan’s House" Center
On January 25, 2025, a tribute evening for the talented musician and songwriter Arno Babajanyan was held in Tbilisi, at the "Hovhannes Tumanyan’s House" Center fo Science and Culture of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
The event was honored with the presence of the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan. The distinguished guests included representatives of Armenian and Georgian music enthusiasts, along with the composer's son, Arayik Babajanyan. The Center's auditorium was filled with admirers of the great composer's songs and music.
The host of the event highlighted the vibrant personality of Arno Babajanyan, discussing his life filled with creative achievements. They also valued the poets and singers who have brought his works to life in various genres, solidifying their place in the treasury of music.
The composer’s works, inspired by his love for Armenia and Yerevan, to which he dedicated many songs, were warmly received by the audience. Their beautiful performances were brought to life by talented artists, including Henrikh Petrosyan, an actor from the Petros Adamyan Theater; Nina Karapetyan, a singer from the “Van” vocal studio of the Armenian community in Georgia; and the “Nerses Shnorhali” (Nerses the Gracious) children's choir of the “Hayartun” Center of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, conducted by Aida Bazoyan-Surmalyan with Karen Mirzoyan on piano.
Arno Babajanyan, who has always highly appreciated the Armenian-Georgian friendship, was warmly welcomed in the capital, Tbilisi. It is no coincidence that the Arno Babajanyan Public Foundation of Georgia, led by Tamaz Ghipiani, operates in Tbilisi—one of only six cities worldwide to host such a foundation.
Arno Babajanyan's works were performed by pianist Yesayi Abovyan; Inessa Avagyan, winner of the “Song of Songs: New Voices” project from Yerevan; Kima Ohanyan, a student of the Yerevan Conservatory; and Christine Restakyan, winner of the Armenian and Spanish international song contests.
It is unlikely that the renowned musician could have imagined during his lifetime that his works would one day be performed in the former Tbilisi apartment of great Armenian poet Hovh Tumanyan-a reality that has now come to life.
