Concluding ceremony of the past year, Blessing of Pomegranates Service at churches of Armenian Diocese in Georgia
On December 31, 2024, the year ended with the Blessing of the Pomegranate Service in the operating churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The ceremony was established back in 2015 by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians. The pomegranate symbolizes the year and its each day.
At the Cathedral of Saint George in Tbilisi, Divine Liturgy and Prayer of Thanks Service took place under the leadership of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia and with the participation of clergy.
His Grace, Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, blessed the pomegranates adorning the altar and extended his congratulations to those present for the upcoming year, 2025. He wished peace to the entire world, the Motherland, and Georgia, as well as health and prosperity to all people.
At the conclusion of the sacred ceremony, His Grace, Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, addressed the faithful, speaking about the mystery of the pomegranate blessing. He explained that, in Armenian tradition, the pomegranate symbolizes the Earth, the diverse nations and peoples inhabiting it, as well as the ideas of life, abundance, and the flowering of existence. Additionally, Bishop Kirakos highlighted that in Christian symbolism, the pomegranate represents the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
At the end of the ceremony, the blessed pomegranate was given to those present.
The old year was concluded in the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia with a Prayer of Thanks and Service of Blessing of Pomegranates.
