“Depicting Batumi” Photo Exhibition at “Hayartun” Center
On May 17, 2026, the Day of Family Sanctity and Respect for Parents was marked at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia with the opening of the “Depicting Batumi” photo exhibition at the “Hayartun” Center. The exhibition was held with the blessing and presiding presence of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, and featured the works of distinguished Batumi-Armenian photographer Seyran Baroyan, President of the Union of Photographic Art. The exhibition was dedicated to the memory of his beloved wife, Irina Baroyan-Yandyan, whose life ended tragically.
On that day, the “Hayartun” Center was transformed into a unique gallery adorned with the master photographer’s remarkable works. Each photograph stood out for its artistic excellence, carefully chosen perspective, and ability to capture the essence of a fleeting moment with profound sensitivity. The works were not only aesthetically compelling but also meaningful, expressive, and rich in educational and spiritual value. The photographs presented vivid reflections of the spiritual and secular life of Adjara, Batumi, and the local Armenian community. They transported visitors into the embrace of history, revealing the inner world of the subjects portrayed and conveying the very spirit of their time.
The exhibition was opened with welcoming remarks by Eugenia Markosyan, Director of the “Hayartun” Center. Rev. Father Ararat Ghumbalyan, spiritual pastor of the Armenians of Adjara, Guria, and Imereti and the Holy Savior (Surb Prkich) Armenian Church in Batumi, spoke about Seyran Baroyan’s creative journey, emphasizing his image as a devoted Armenian, his truthful portrayal of his native city, and his deep dedication to the Armenian Church.
Van Bayburtyan, editor of the newsletter “Vrastan,” (“Georgia”), shared his memories of the re-consecration of the Holy Savior Church. In his words of gratitude, Seyran Baroyan thanked the Armenian community of Tbilisi for the opportunity to present his works to the Armenians of Tbilisi.
In his message of blessing, His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, expressed his appreciation for Seyran Baroyan’s dedicated service to the Armenian community and the Holy Savior Church. He also announced that the distinguished photographer would be awarded a Letter of Blessing and Appreciation in recognition of his longstanding contributions.
