Holy Thursday in Armenian Churches in Tbilisi

On April 2, 2026, Holy Thursday, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the morning in the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. In the Cathedral of Saint George and Holy Etchmiadzin Church of Avlabari, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Rev. Father Husik Harutyunyan and the Father Samvel Torosyan.

During the Divine Liturgy, the celebrant priests delivered sermons on the meaning of the Holy Communion by Christ.

This was followed by the Washing of the Feet Service in the churches. After the Last Supper, Christ, offering a true example of humility and meekness, washed the feet of His disciples. Following the Lord’s example, and accompanied by the singing of hymns, the clergy of the Armenian churches in Tbilisi, kneeling at the altar, washed the feet of twelve individuals, including children, and anointed them with blessed oil.

At the Cathedral of Saint George, the Washing of the Feet ceremony was presided over by His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. At the Holy Etchmiadzin Church, the ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan.

After the ceremony, the blessed oil was distributed to the faithful.
