Service of Darkness at Armenian Churches in Tbilisi

On April 17, 2025, on the evening of Holy Thursday, the Service of Darkness was offered in the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, symbolically referring to Good Friday and commemorating the crucifixion and burial of the Lord.

At the Cathedral of Saint George in Tbilisi, the Service of Darkness was offered under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. During the service, the Gospel readings by the priests and deacons recalled Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, His betrayal, humiliation, and Peter’s denial.

During the Service of Darkness, the clergy, in their sermon, urged the faithful to pledge allegiance to the Lord Jesus, to live with Christian love, and to never betray the Son of God.

The Service of Darkness was also offered at the Saint Etchmiadzin church in Avlabari.
