The Feast of Holy Translators celebrated at “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Center of Armenian Diocese in Georgia

According to the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church Calendar, on October 12, 2024, the Feast of Holy Translators was celebrated.

The significance of the event held at “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Center for Science and Culture was in highlighting the role of translation activity in the process of rapprochement and deepening of Armenian-Georgian literary ties, following the example of Holy Translators.

Armenian literature admirers, poets and translators, and Georgian penpals were present at the event. The attendees observed a moment of silence to honor Givi Shahnazar, the esteemed poet and translator who recently passed away.

After the Lord's Prayer, Rev. Father Kirakos Simonyan, the spiritual superintendent of the “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Center, conveyed blessings and good wishes of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, spoke about the importance of writing and translation activities in the development of culture, preservation of the national values and deepening of faith.

The event was dedicated to the presentation of translations from Armenian and Georgian literature by professional translator Asya Darbinyan and Armen Ohanyan's "Antimimino" collection. The translator spoke in detail about how translations that highlight the literary connections between the two Christian nations allow readers to appreciate the realistic progress in the development of Armenian and Georgian literature, as well as to deepen their interest and respect for each other's history and culture.

Georgian writers Manana Gorgishvili and Gela Suladze addressed the importance of translation. Van Bayburtyan, the editor of "Vrastan" (Georgia) newsletter, and Susanna Khachatryan, the diocesan spokesperson, gave a speech of appreciation, and poets Marina Kirakosyan-Mosesova and Mikael Ananov presented their works and translations.

At the end of the event, the attendees received various books translated into Georgian by Asya Darbinyan.
