Wreath Laid at April 9 Victims’ Memorial on Behalf of Armenian Diocese
On April 9, 2026, in Avlabari district of Tbilisi, near the St. Etchmiadzin church, at the khachkar (cross-stone) erected by the Armenian community in memory of the victims of the April 9, 1989 tragedy, a Requiem Service was held under the leadership of Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan, with the participation of the clergy. During the service, the clergy offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the 21 innocent victims who were martyred during the restoration of Georgia’s independence.
After laying flowers and placing a wreath, representatives of the Armenian Diocese, led by Rev. Father Hovsep Harutyunyan and accompanied by Van Bayburtyan, editor of the “Vrastan” (“Georgia”) newsletter, visited the site of the tragedy that took place 37 years ago. With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, they paid tribute and laid a wreath at the April 9 memorial on Rustaveli Avenue, in front of the Georgian Parliament building.
