EDUCATIONAL DEPARTMENT – DIRECTOR: EUGENIA MARKOSYAN

Preserving and transmitting the Armenian language, script, literature, religion, and culture to future generations is essential for maintaining the strength of the Armenian gene pool.

The primary goal of the Educational Department of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia is to preserve the national Armenian identity. For decades, no preschool educational institution has been operating in Tbilisi.

Since October 2011, under the initiative and patronage of His Grace Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Saint Moses of Khoren (Surb Movses Khorenatsi) preschool has been operating with its 8 students. Today, dozens of children attend the preschool. There are two groups: senior and junior. Professional teachers are engaged in the education and upbringing of children, with additional support from a nanny. Each day begins with participation in the church service and receiving blessings from the priests.

The preschool’s main goals are to maintain and strengthen children’s physical, moral, and mental health while ensuring their harmonious development and upbringing. In addition to all this, a key objective is to prepare and guide children toward Armenian schools. Here children learn literacy, Armenian speech, arithmetic, Georgian, English, fine arts, singing, and dancing, and receive a Christian education.

The following preschools operate under the auspices of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia:

Saint Moses of Khoren (Surb Movses Khorenatsi) preschool in Tbilisi - director: Eugenia Markosyan, teachers: Aida Bazoyan, Tatevik Sahakyan, and Nane Oganesyan.

Saint Gregory the Illuminator (Surb Grigor Lusavorich) preschool of Alexander Mantashyants Center in Batumi - director: Sona Hovhannisyan, teachers: Diana Akopyan, Irina Hakobyan, Mary Jivaryan, Syuzanna Sukiasyan, Ruzanna Hovhannisyan (song)

Nairi Preschool of Saint Gregory of Narek (Surb Grigor Narekatsi) Center in Rustavi - teacher: Margarita Shatarevyan.

The Armenian Diocese in Georgia also operates one-day Armenian language schools, aiming to teach Armenians their native language and introduce them to the history of the Armenian Church and people.

The foundation of Sunday schools in Tbilisi was established three decades ago by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, Archbishop Gevorg Seraydaryan, of blessed memory.

Currently, there are two one-day schools where many Armenian children of different ages study.

The program at these schools lasts two years. Upon completion, graduates receive a certificate.

One-day schools:

Saint Gregory of Narek Saturday School in Tbilisi - teachers Tamara Gaboyan, Yenok Tadevosyan

Saint Elias Prophet Sunday School in Tbilisi - teacher Rosa Zohrabyan, Yenok Tadevosyan

Saint Mesrop Mashtots School in Batumi - teacher Satenik Danielyan

Saint Yeghishe School of Saint Gregory of Narek Center in Rustavi - teacher: Margarita Shatarevyan

With the support of the Diocesan Headquarters, teachers of the aforementioned educational institutions participate in annual professional development courses organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia.
