Commemorative event dedicated to Gevorg Bashinjaghyan

At the initiative of the Union of Armenian Intellectuals of Georgia (Chairman: historian Yenok Tadevosyan) and organized by the "Hayartun" Educational and Cultural Center (Director: Eugenia Markosyan), the "Our Greats" event series continues at the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. On February 2, 2025, with the blessing and under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, a commemorative event was held in honor of the talented Armenian painter and founder of national realistic landscape painting, Gevorg Bashinjaghyan. The event marked the 100th anniversary of the painter’s passing.
Gevorg Bashinjaghyan’s paintings adorn the walls of the Cathedral of St. George in Tbilisi, the very church whose courtyard serves as the final resting place of the renowned Armenian artist. Following the Sunday Divine Liturgy, under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, a requiem service was held at Bashinjaghyan’s grave, and flowers were laid at his tombstone.
The commemorative event held at the “Hayartun” Center took on a special significance with the screening of a documentary film about Gevorg Bashinjaghyan. We express our gratitude to the Grand Candy Company of the Republic of Armenia for providing the "Our Greats" documentary series to the "Hayartun" Center.
Reflecting the love and admiration of the renowned artist for Sayat-Nova and the ashugh art, Sayat-Nova’s songs were performed with the accompaniment of the "Hayartun" Center’s duduk group, led by Ivane Mkrtchyan, and beautifully interpreted by soloist Aida Bazoyan-Surmalyan.
In his blessing and appreciation speech, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia emphasized the significance of such events, noting that they help uncover new pages in the history of distinguished figures of the Armenian community in Georgia.
