Ecumenical prayer at Cathedral of St. George in Tbilisi

On January 24, under the arches of the Cathedral of St. George of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, in Tbilisi, the annual Ecumenical Prayer for Christian unity was offered.

In Georgia, it has been offered for years to unite Christians of different church traditions in one place to jointly glorify Our Lord. The Ecumenical Prayer is held annually in one of the churches representing various Christian denominations: Apostolic Administration of the Catholic Church of Caucasus, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Georgia, the Evangelical Baptist Church of Georgia, and the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church.

This year's Ecumenical Prayer was organized by the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. At the invitation of the Primate, leaders from the participating Christian denominations, along with clergy, ambassadors, representatives of various organizations, and the faithful, attended the Ecumenical Prayer.

The united prayer was held under the motto “Do you believe this?” (John 11:26). The Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan welcomed all participants of the Christian prayer and emphasized the significance of praying together. Such events help bring the faithful of different churches closer to worshiping the one true God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Under the arches of the ancient church, the choirs of all the churches spread the spirit and warmth of hymns, creating a unique atmosphere of prayer. In his sermon, the Primate of the host Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia referred to the motto of the day: “Do you believe all this?” and encouraged those present to always respond, “This is what we believe.” As a symbol of the unity of the Christian faith, those present passed on the light lit from one candle to each other, saying: “The light of Christ.”

The Prayer ended with a blessing from the spiritual fathers, reflecting the spirit of Christian unity and solidarity.
