Evening of National Song Beneath the Arches of St. Gevork Church
On May 30, 2026, spiritual and national music filled the air at the Cathedral of Saint George (Syrb Gevork) in Tbilisi. The Armenian Diocese in Georgia hosted opera singer Nelli Gasparyan from Yerevan, together with the choir she leads. The purpose of the visit was to perform spiritual music under the ancient church’s arches, in an evening titled “The Call of Eternity.”
With the blessing and under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, a concert was held featuring performances by ensembles from Yerevan and the “Makar Yekmalyan” church choir of the Diocesan St. George Cathedral. The event was accompanied by organists Harutyun Taghvoryan and Karen Mirzoyan. Sacred and classical music filled the House of God, including works by Komitas, as well as melodies by Edgar Hovhannisyan and Khachatur Avetisyan. Particularly impressive were the solo performances by choir conductors Nelli Gasparyan and Svetlana Tatoeva, which felt deeply heartfelt and spiritually moving for the audience gathered in prayer and in love for sacred music. The concert also featured beautifully performed examples of Georgian songs, adding a rich intercultural dimension to the evening.
Under the arches of the cathedral, Nelli Gasparyan performed Komitas’ “Krunk” (The Crane), a piece deeply cherished by every Armenian and one that remains timeless in its emotional power.
The concert concluded with an unforgettable impression of sacred music, as both choirs and soloists performed Komitas’ national hymn-like composition. At the end of the event, Deacon Giorgi Abramyan read out the Letter of Blessing and Appreciation from the Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, addressed to Nelli Gasparyan.
The concert, titled “The Call of Eternity,” came to a close, leaving the audience with lasting and profound impressions.
