St. George Church of Mets Durnuk Village, Tetritskaro Municipality
The parish church of St. George (Surb Gevorg) in Mets Durnuk has been documented in historical records since 1841.
Mets Durnuk is an Armenian village in the Tetritskaro Municipality, located 22 kilometers east of the municipal center. The village was founded in 1830 by Armenian settlers who migrated from Shulaveri, Yerevan, and other regions, establishing their community on the site of an abandoned settlement. The residents are primarily engaged in horticulture, livestock farming, and beekeeping, while also cultivating cereal crops.
The parish church of St. George (Surb Gevorg) in Mets Durnuk has been documented in historical records since 1841. The church underwent a complete and substantial reconstruction in 1863. This is commemorated by a marble inscription set above the southern entrance.
THE CHURCH OF ST. GEVORG WAS RENOVATED IN 1863 THROUGH THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE COMMUNITY OF DURNUK VILLAGE. THIS MARBLE PLAQUE WAS DONATED BY HARUTYUN HOVAKIMYAN.
It is known that on June 22, 1884, the church was consecrated upon the completion of another major restoration. The church is a single-nave vaulted structure, built entirely of finely dressed stone. A four-column bell tower stands at the top of the western façade. The roof is covered with tiles. Its external dimensions are 16.32 × 7.12 m.
